Present Perfect VS Simple Past

Use:

El presente perfecto se usa para decir que algo ha ocurrido en un momento no específico.

*I have written many books

*I have done the homework

El pasado simple se usa para decir en qué momento específico ocurrió esta acción o evento.

*I wrote many books last year.

*I did the homework

The giant Panda has a distinctive white head with black eye patches, ears and shoulders. Unlike other bear species, giant pandas are herbivorous, spending up to 12 hours a day chewing bamboo shoots and roots. Because of poaching and habitat loss, they are extremely rare, occurring in small populations in the bamboo forest of China. Despite being the subject of major international conservation efforts, wild populations of giant pandas may not be enough to save this species.

Giant pandas have lived in the bamboo forests of China for millions of years and have been honored by the Chinese for a very long time. In fact, giant pandas have appeared in Chinese art for thousands of years. Because the giant panda is considered a national treasure in China, it is protected by law so that it does not become extinct.

Betsy: Hi Brian, this is Betsy. How are you doing?
Brian: I’ve just returned from the Head Office. The weather is great! Boston is a great city!

Betsy: Have you met Frank yet?
Brian: No, I haven’t seen him yet. We have a meeting at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning. We are going to meet then.

Betsy: Have you made your presentation yet?
Brian: Yes, I made the presentation yesterday afternoon. I was very nervous, but everything went well.

Betsy: Has management given you any feedback yet?
Brian: Yes, I’ve already met with the sales director. We met immediately after the meeting and he was impressed with our work.

Betsy: That’s great Brian. Congratulations! Have you visited any museums yet?
Brian: No, I’m afraid I haven’t had any time yet. I hope to take a tour around town tomorrow.

These are signal words that help you identify between Past Simple or Present Perfect. Estas son palabras claves que te ayudan a identificar entre pasado y pasado perfecto.

Viral video saved the radio star

A homeless man who lives on the streets of Cleveland, USA, has shot to fame, after a clip of his marvelous radio voice went viral on the internet.

Ted Williams, was filmed by a local cameraman holding a cardboard sign that read: “I’m an ex-radio announcer who fell on hard times”. Now that the video has millions of hits on YouTube, Williams, becomes an overnight sensation.

He spent the day appearing on talk shows across America, sporting a new haircut and a smarter appearance than on the clip that made him famous.

Since this story is widely known, he received numerous job offers from big broadcasting names including ESPN, MTV, ABC, CBS and CNN and The Cleveland Cavaliers.

The story of the “homeless man with the golden pipes”  lifted the spirits of a recession-hit nation. However, the instant hero attracted so much attention that reporters started digging into his background and they discovered that Williams struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for years.

Accusations also said that Williams acted as a pimp during his years on the streets. In response, Williams said, “Don’t judge a book by its cover – everyone has their own little story. I’m just so thankful. God blessed me deeply. I’m getting a second chance. Amazing!”


PAST SIMPLE VS PRESENT PERFECT


REPASO :

El  present perfect siempre nos dice algo sobre lo que sucedio en el pasado y continua sucediendo en el momento.
Por ejemplo: ‘Tom has lost his key’ = TOm ha perdido su llave , lo que quiere decir que todavia no la ha encontrado .
El  past simple nos dice con exactitud lo que paso en el pasado y CUANDO.
Si alguien nos dice : ‘Tom lost his key yesterday ‘= Tom perdio su llave ayer, Entonces podemos decir que el perdió la llave y que ya la encontro y no la esta buscando mas.
